Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely 19th Century French Napoleon III glove box with elaborate boulle inlaid decoration. The box is made of burl walnut with a decorative boulle center medallion and boulle work inlaid in ebonized wood forming a border around the top of the box and extending down each corner. The interior of the box is lined with ruby silk with the center top and bottom padded and tufted. The box has a tight piano hinge that extends the length of the box and the box opens and closes properly. The locking mechanism is intact although we do not have the original key. Dating from the early to mid-1800’s, these elaborate boxes were popular with the wealthy Grand Tour travelers and were found n the renowned Palais Royal shops of Paris. Measures 3 1/8″ high, 12 1/4″ long and 3 3/4 wide. Weighs 1.6 pounds. This nice box is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The boulle inlay is intact with no missing sections. There are some minor signs of minor wear and aging in the wood although overall the box is very nice. The silk interior is in excellent condition.
